[Potential Purchase] Problems with the Acer Predator Helios 300

ind4go

Ok, so I am thinking about purchasing a new pc, It has to be a laptop because I take my current laptop around alot. I want a powerful pc but not an expensive one. My main thought is this laptop linked, the 2021 Acer Predator Helios 300. Basic specs being:

  • (15.6") LCD ComfyView In-plane Switching (IPS) Technology 165 Hz QHD 2560 x 1440
  • Intel Core 11th Gen i7-11800H Octa-core (8 Core™) 2.40 GHz base, 24 MB
  • 16GB DDR4 SDRAM, 1TB SSD
  • NVIDIA GeForce® RTX™ 3070 GDDR6

Link to the purchase is also here:

I would just like to know if anyone has had big issues with this laptop, I have heard it can have power issues and thermal issues (although laptops are always going to have thermal issues to be honest.). Anyone who has this laptop know of any problems? Also any recommendations would be nice, keep them similar specs though please. Thanks (Price for laptop is $2,600 AUD)

I don't have that model, specifically, but do have an Acer Predator Helios 300 (Model #PH315-53-764Q) though.  I've done some upgrades to it as well.

Maybe a month or so after taking delivery of it, I had to do a warranty-repair with Acer due to some sort of short on the mainboard.  However, I had it returned to me repaired within about 10 days of their repair centre receiving it from me.  I've had no further such issues with it since that initial repair/service.  As for the heat, I do find this laptop tends to run somewhat hotter than other laptops may, but it's designed to run hot though.

Overall, I'm pleased with it and its performance.  It seems to run anything I've thrown at it, including AAA games at max video settings, without issues.
