Hey all.

Having a bit of a nightmare with a recently built system.

CPU: Intel 11600k

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15S

RAM: Team T-Force Dark Za 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz CL18 DDR4

MB: Asus ROG Strix Z590-F Gaming WiFi

GPU: ASUS Tuf 3080 FHR

STORAGE: Samsung 1tb 970, 2tb 970 and 8tb 870.

PSU: Corsair RM750 Gold

CASE: Meshify 2 Compact

Initially ran with Windows 10, didn't like XMP 1 or 2 in the Bios, wasn't booting at all, eventually seemed ok and no issues seemingly post Bios updates.

Decided to do a clean install of Windows 11.....

Initially would get several blue screens every hour (or worse), seemed less so when disabling XMP. Put up with it for a week or two before going back to Windows 10, surprisingly had the odd crash again.

Recently again decided to go back to Windows 11 on a clean install again, hoping OS updates may help, had a crash or two prior to getting all OS updates and GPU/Intel/MB Drivers installed.  Seemed SLIGHTLY more stable post updates/driver installs. Have had XMP both disabled and enabled at various times.

Blue screen reboots have included anything from Memory Management, System Service Exception, Kernel Mode Heap Corruption. Bugcheck and others I can't recall off the top of my head.

Memory checks have come up saying everything is fine.

Generally still getting one BSOD every day or two with light use, usually just on the desktop/chrome for an hour or two.

Yesterday I disabled C State in the Bios, haven't had any issues SO FAR. Though doesn't seem like the ideal way to fix the issue.

Do we think it's a software/driver issue, potentially faulty/incompatible RAM, just a shitty platform in the 11th Gen? Windows 11?

Just to confirm, I've got Windows/Bios/Drivers all up to date obviously.

Apologies for the long post.  Getting beyond fed up as I've switched hardware around way to many times in recent years, almost getting to the give up stage.

'system service exception' BSOD restart within a minute or two of turning the PC on, had Chrome and Steam running. And another minutes later.

So maybe the C State idea isn't helping either.

Only other software installed apart from the above mentioned is Logitech Options as well for my kb and mouse.

Performed another clean install...

This time re-updated Bios, CLR CMOS and did Windows 11 Updates from a newly created USB without issues (for the first time ever)

I currently have MCE disabled in the Bios and am running XMP 1 atm.

Began installing Nvidia Drivers after a restart, got a DPC Watchdog Violation BSOD restart

Upon finishing, midway through downloading Chrome I got a Kernel Data inpage Error BSOD and Restarted

Then while typing this I got another, Kmode Exception Not handled BSOD restart.

All this in a matter of minutes.

I'm on the knifes edge of throwing this out.

Following Day: Have also turned the PC on for it to turn off mid boot, have seen this 2-3 times over the last couple of months too.

Any advice?

I have gone back to Windows 10 24 hours ago, installed a few things, ran a game or two and haven't had a single crash.

So I guess my issue is likely Windows 11 and software related.....

XMP enabled, nothing else changed in Bios.

I have done both memory and drive checks, neither came up with any issues on the hardware.

i agree 1 drive only would be a good start, just because some "checks" didn't come up with anything  doesn't  mean there cant be an issue, and stop jumping between windows versions maybe,  Id stick with 10... you have to try running with as little components as possible,  process of elimination aka "troubleshooting".

that said the ram is awful,  and the psu might not cut it, this is where i would start looking *after* a fresh win 10 installation.

I'm leaning ram but why would a 750w Gold Corsair not cut it on a system with no CPU or GPU overclocking? And an i5 no less.

I'm also looking to upgrade to 11 as I'd prefer to anyway. I enjoy mucking around with a new OS.

FYI, I've removed a stick of ram, done a new clean 11 install, updated, drivers etc etc and no faults yet. XMP is still active.

Id like to see how it goes for a few days. But I'm expecting it to be ok.

On that basis, a new pair of Ram sticks? I'd like to think the MB would be far less likely to be at fault.

Have substituted sticks (using other one only) and no crashes for a couple hours. Which seems as good as it gets, I have had Steam downloading constantly too.

FWIW, it is actually listed as supported memory on the ASUS Site.

So running 1 stick appears to be no issue.

Is there anything with an i5 being a little less happy with OC Ram?

  • 11th Gen Intel® Core™ processors support 3200/2933/2800/2666/2400/2133 natively.

I have read of people complaining about the Intel 10th and 11th Gen CPUs and their memory controller.

My next step would be to try 2 sticks in the other 2 channels this time.

Did that, won't post with 2 sticks in the other 2 non preferred channels.

Kinda expected that, I did have issues like that originally on purchase.
