Hey guys,

So I have an ASUS Crosshair VIII x570 board, and I recently purchased a second m.2 drive to fill the other slot. It's a WD black PCIE 4.0 drive (1tb)

My current m.2 drive is in the top slot and I went to install this one in the bottom slot. But when I installed it, my computer would go through a bunch of extra error codes on boot and then the post but hang on POST screen with a board code of 06. I also can't get into the bios from the POST screen as it's completely locked up.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I took the drive out and after a little longer boot time I made it to desktop....so thankfully it worked without the new drive.

Removing the drive would likely get the thing to post but wouldn’t solve your problem.  I think Something is buggered with this bottom slot SSD as apparently the top slot SSD works fine?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

What BIOS version are you on?

I never even thought of this, I checked the BIOS history for the board and some of the updates said "m.2 boot fixed" and another said "improved M.2 compatibility" I imagine that's it. Im gonna have to update it tonight and hope that works 🙂

It’s kind of a thing with AMD stuff.  Keeping bios up to date is pretty critical sometimes.  The deal is intel stuff used to get tested with a lot more and accommodations were made for intel but not for AMD because they weren’t tested. As a result AMD would produce Forrest’s of bios updates because it was the only way for AMD to make accommodations  themselves because no one else was.  Less of this happens these days, but keeping the bios up on AMD is generally just a good idea.

Yeah this ended up being it, thank you 🙂

I was originally waiting for the BIOS for USB device disconnects to get out of beta back over the summer, and i just never updated and completely forgot

I was on an old one, i just updated it last night and after a few problems I got it working...someone else brought it up to me as well. Appreciate the response 🙂

Glad to hear it working again, mark the appropriate response as the solution
