Hello!

In some games the FPS does go over my monitors refresh rate(165 Hz). Which seems unnecessary in some cases, depending on the actual game. But all the games might not have the option to lock the FPS to a specific value. So instead I use MSI Afterburner and Rive Tuner Statistics Server to deal with that.

If I lock the FPS to 100 for example, instead of having 250 unlocked, the GPU temperature seems to be a lot lower and the fans not running that high. Which I guess is normal?

There is also some value, which I guess is the GPU clock speed, that goes up when locking the FPS. The values were like 1950 MHz locked and 1850 MHz unlocked. Is that also normal?

Is it generally bad for the GPU to lock the FPS in any way?

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB GAMING OC PRO V3

Thanks in advance!

Less FPS, the easier the work the GPU is trying to do becomes. It's using less power and making less heat.

Since the GPU is not running as hot, it will let it's self boost higher. What were the GPU temperatures when it was locked and unlocked?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Thanks for explaining! That correlation makes sense. The temps while it was locked were sitting around 58 to 60C. When unlocked temps were sitting around 63 to 65C.
