Issue with ram

I have a laptop that had 4 gigs of ram 3.5 usable and I put 8 gigs into the second slot so it had 12 gigs 11 usable but when I run a game it only uses 3.5 gigs of ram and doesn't use the rest.

Are you using 32 bit or 64 bit Windows? 3.5GB max makes it sound like a 32 bit OS.

depending on the game and the settings, that could be perfectly normal. also I would recommend you swap the 4gb with another 8gb stick so you can use them in dual channel mode. have you tried using higher graphics presets or higher resolution? If the ram usage goes up after that, you have no problem and thats just what the game needs

Its actually a 64bit not 32 so I dont know why this is

I maxed out my settings and it was still only using 3.5 gigs

Is the game 32 bit? You should see in task manager

Outside of recompiling the game, nope

That's something essentially only the game's developer can change. At the very least they would have to recompile the game, but could involve more than that. They might not be willing to invest that work, unless it generates significant enough additional income.
