I've run into this problem with my external SSD where when i connect it to my Thunderbolt connection on my Windows PC and put my PC to sleep/shut it down, that my SSD won't turn off and starts getting hot.

I assume it has something to do with Thunderbolt charging devices like phones while the pc is asleep but when i turned the feature "charge Devices via thunderbolt" off in the BIOS it didn't have any impact on this wierd behavior.

Any idea what could be going on here? it's been bothering me quite some time now.

PC: HP Victus 16.1 inch | Windows 10 | Product number: 4K245EA#ABH

SSD: Samsung T5 1 TB SSD
