So, I looked at servers and nothing is cost effective so.. I decided to build a server instead. Right now, the plan is a 4790k 32gb of ddr4 and I'll be running to start off 2 exos 18TB drives. With that being said, I've already selected a 4u case, my question is the PSU. I will be using this server to file hose as well as host Plex. I want to be able to transcode at least one 4k stream however, for now this will suffice as I work out stopping transcoding with external subs. What is a good PSU brand that doesn't break the bank. I believe this will need a 2u power supply. Any help is greatly appreciated, redundant power isn't truly needed

Euhm a 4790k only supports ddr3 ram and for a server that is usually a expensive and honestly kinda totally the wrong cpu for what you are going to be doing on it.

You want a cpu with a lot of cores AND a gpu that can accelerate encoding. The 4790k only has one of these options.

Also you want to do a 2u server build with consumer parts?

Yeah ok so lets back up a bit.

For your usecase a simple old xeon workstation like a hp z620 with a 8core 16t cpu and a gtx 960 in it would be more than plenty if you want to do it cheaply. Also 32gb of ram is overkill especially since you are just doing 2 drives for storage and I don't see speed mattering much.

If going new a 5600g would be pretty sweet for this task too. Then with the accompanying parts around it.

And just dump it in a desktop case and put it somewhere unless you have a server rack don't get a server case.

If you do want a server rack and case get a 4u so you don't end up with a jetengine.

You selected a 4u case, why do you think you need a 2u psu? What specific case did you get?

And there are plenty of cheap servers that will do what you want for a low cost. Dell r230, t series towers... File hosting and plex doesn't need anything too exotic.
