If you're talking about using some kind of PCIe-based SATA HBA or RAID card, you're usually pretty safe, but can you clarify what you mean by "SATA splitter"?

What kind of splitter are you talking about? AFAIK, you can't split a single SATA data port if that's what you're planning.
