because hearing aids will not work as it is a brain problem not a ear problem.

A quick Google search brought up that hearing aids with active noise cancelling exist. I'm not going to recommend a specific type or brand because I'm not a medical professional, I don't know what your precise requirements are and I'm not knowledgeable enough about them to know how far you can dial in the cancelling effect to suit your needs. But the tech is out there and you should probably bring it up to at least the one audiologist that had some experience with your issue.

Hello All!

I am a new member to the community and have a bit of a strange request. I hope this is the right place to post this as it is tech related but in an off topic kind of way. I have pretty bad ADHD and one of my issues is with auditory processing. The TLDR of the issue is basically if there is any amount of background noise, there is a good chance anyone talking is going to end up sounding like the parents from the peanuts cartoons. I have gone to audiologists to try and correct this issue, but they have scratched their heads for the most part and said I was fine. I finally found one who had experience with this issue, but he could not help because hearing aids will not work as it is a brain problem not a ear problem.  This is where I think that some people on here can help. When I tried a buddies air pods pro in the transparency mode, I noticed I was able to understand people a bit better. I think the external mics were dimming the background sound a bit, and thus making it easier for me to understand people. If you understand how this mode works or just an understanding of earbuds with transparency mode on the market, it would be great if you could let me know so I can try and get this issue fixed. I want to try and figure this out both to make my life easier and to spread the word to others with issues similar to mine. I hope this is not an inconvenience to you guys on here. Thanks!

Ok sounds good. I have been digging around on Google for a while but I feel like I need some more technical info to go back to the doc. Thank you very much for the reply
