Virtual machine very slow

Hello

I have some trouble with my vm. It's a Ubuntu 20.04 guest on a windows 10 host.

Everything works fine when I start the vm. But after a certain amount of time (sometimes 30 min, sometimes 1 hour, sometimes even sooner) it becomes incredibly slow.

The mouse jumps instead of the normal movement, dragging windows is a pain cause it gets later at the position then the mouse. Opening files is slow as a snail, etc.

My host device has 32 GB RAM and 8 cores 16 thread CPU. I located 6 cores to the vm in VMWare and 16GB of Ram. All the VMWare tools are installed.

While the guest is being slow, there is no swap memory used and the 16GB is not fully used, the CPU is also at very low usage.

Does anyone know how to solve this or why this is happening? About half a year ago it still worked perfectly fine and i didn't change a thing.

I'll already thank you for reading my problem.

i have my windows updates completely disabled (i don't like the randomness of the updates, but do them manually once in a while, but between the time the vm worked normally and now i have not done any update), and for as far as i can see, it's only on my ubuntu 20.04 vm that slows down. I need it for school work, so i rather not reinstall. But other os's don't seem to be affected (win 11, win 10, win 7, win xp,...)

ps: sorry if my english is not so great 🙂
