I have a build set up in a very shittybattlestation way, and I'm just worried about dying lol and about the build being safe from breaking

sort of like a vv badly implemented test bench build but like actually being daily driven. i don't have a power button so i have to jump it daily

it has an open motherboard set atop a styrofoam surface, im not sure if wood or a cardboard box would be better.

it has a cpu already in and an hdd and ssd hanging off at the side suct taped to the table (i made sure to leave that hdd pinhole open)

i'm using it as a daily driver while i wait for a special order itx case to arrive from overseas.

so the issue is that i have no backplate. having no backplate means that i'm currently running the whole shebang on a cpu cooler that is not connected to the motherboard. it's currently just plopped on top of the cpu (ryzen 3950x) and connected with nothing but some thermal paste.

i'm getting alright temps at about 48 when locked, 56 when idling, and 65 when using office stuff. it spikes up to around 77 when 'gaming' (csgo, Minecraft; the like).

I'm just worried that it will somehow implode or ruin the cpu in some way. should i be worried?

thanks ://

Whats the cooler? On heavier cooler you must have them if you want to prop it in a case.

What's the cooler?

Use some nylon/plastic washers on the back and just bolt the cooler through. Don't use too much mounting pressure as you don't want to warp the motherboard by screwing it in too tight.

For the love of tech take this off  the styrofoam (ground yourself first)

Yes cardboard is better...

original amd wraith spire cooler common in the box of i think 2nd gen ryzen chips. no rgb. idk how to bolt it down for now, i was thinking zipties or rubber bands for now.

i bought a generic metal backplate that im not sure i can even use on it, so of you know hoelw i figure that out the help would be appreciated

very similar to how i have my current testbench setup, just shoved the entire thing ontop a cardboard box and didnt bother mounting the cooler cause i lost the mounting for the cooler ;-; (ill make a custom mount later anyways since im prob gonna use it for tec cooling so doesnt matter)

Heres the testbench in all its glory xD

Only diff here is that you are looking to put your testbench for now setup into a case and im looking to fabricate a testbench (prob out of a scrap case), but fabbing a testbench out of a case is a low priority so i havent bothered yet and will not bother in a long while, not until i get my ud3p fixed (if i can properly swap the shot nb chip)

For my experience with a testbench while doing this for around 2 years now and just shoving it atop a cardboard box its actually worked very well for me, you may need to clean the cardboard box once in awhile and for me the cardboard box is abit small but other than that i havent encountered any other problems, certainly not gonna set your house on fire or break anything as long as you dont knock your computer off the cardboard box
