Budget (including currency): ~700 USD

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: FO4, Forza Horizon 5, RDR 2, Light video editing

Other details : Reusing ram, case, power supply and a couple SSDs. Already have all my other parts in my cart (3070, pcie gen 4 nvme drive, 12 TB storage drive.} I have three 1440p monitors and do, occasionally do surround gaming.

The real question I have is if you would go:
AMD: Ryzen 7 5800x with an MSI MPG X570S EDGE MAX WiFi for $693.99

INTEL: Core i7-12700K with a MSI PRO Z690-A WIFI DDR4 for 689,98

The cpu and mobo will be replacing an aging 8700k and a MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC.

I would wait for November 4th for the NDA to lift to see how Alder Lake performs compared to previous Intel processors, as well as AMD's 5000 series.

Just overclock your cpu and maybe wait for zen3d or atleast till alderlake reviews and performance comes out, 8700k is still a decently capable 6c 12t you just need to oc abit

Deathzone ~1.9v, absolute max "safe" volt ~1.6v, reccomended max safe volt 1.52v (intel 14nm spec), go with the intel 14nm spec as max safe volt

I've been overclocked to 5GHZ all core for a long time. This may be the last time I get to upgrade for a few years.

Team Red. Intel has f***** me too many times in the past.

I've been Intel for a long time, My son and my room mate both went AMD on their last builds but they were both zen+. I know things have changed a lot since then.

I  agree, I am at least two weeks out from actually ordering anything. Just putting a feeler out right now.

No worries, it's best to take your time now and do some research before buying parts.

I'd say this one will probably be the better deal. You get 8 p cores + 4 e cores (12 cores total) versus just 8 cores. Will give you a smoother experience in today's games and future games cause the e cores will take care of background task giving the game all the p cores to work with. I would wait for more testing on this CPU before making a decision though. There might be some growing pains with this new architecture.
