Hey there,

I am planning to update my current PC. The problem is I can not afford all of the parts at once.

My current setup:

Fractal Design R4 -> replacing existing Fractal fans with three NF-A14 FLX 140mm to reduce loudness

ASUS P7P55D-E LX -> Upgrade to ASUS H87-PRO

Intel i7 860 2.8 GHz -> Intel Xeon E3 1230V3 3.3 GHz

ASUS R9 280X OC

Corsair Vengeance 16 GB 1600MHz

Scythe Mugen 3 + Noctua NF-F12PWM 120mm -> NOCTUA NH-U14S

No-name PSU -> bequiet Dark Power Pro 10 650W

Samsung 840 Pro 128GB

Samsung 1 TB 7200rpm

Currently I can only pay around 350 €.

Please tell me which part you would upgrade first and if there are any recommendable alternatives.

How big would the performance increase that comes with a CPU update be ?

I am also thinking of buying a second SSD for games or for a RAID-0, what is your oppinion  about this ?

A low noise level is very important to me, too.

I am really looking forward to reading your suggestions.

Sincerely

MB

First I would say replace your psu because some bad psus are known to blow up. Then your motherboard and cpu combo but I wouldn't go for a xeon with an h87. That seems like a bad combo. Go with 4670k and a good Z87 board.

i7 4770K with a H100i is what I'd get.

For gaming? He's on a budget and you suggested and i7?

Okay, I'd personally go with the CPU+motherboard combo first.

CPU: 5930K @ 4.5GHz | GPU: Zotac GTX 980Ti AMP! Extreme edition @ 1503MHz/7400MHz | RAM: 16GB Corsair Dom Plat @ 2667MHz CAS 13 | Motherboard: Asus X99 Sabertooth | Boot Drive: 400GB Intel 750 Series NVMe SSD | PSU: Corsair HX1000i | Monitor: Dell U2713HM 1440p monitor

Well it does seem kind of weird.. he's on a budget and the parts he plans on getting are not exactly budget friendly.. maybe OP has a specific purpose in mind other than gaming?  Anyway.. i7 4770k doesn't seem like a bad suggestion to me.

I'd kinda agree with @Paralectic because the 860 isn't a cheap i7 nor is the Xeon good for it's price considering it's performance. (you can get better perf. with a similar priced cpu)

The 4670 is perfect is you're on that $200 budget. If you can afford a 4770k go for it.  If you can find a Xeon 1240 v3 around $250 it's a bargain compared to the 1230 v3. Good luck anyway

When you talk budget you gotta look at perf. as well guys.

You can get a PNY SSD XLR8 is really similar in perf for aroun $30 less if you're on a budget and want another SSD

Consider WD Blue drives and Segate Baracuda  you can find them both at 1TB and higher for around the same price possibly less and they're more reliable with a lower failure rate. Hope this helps
