Can anyone recommend any good AV and firewall? I've heard about comodo, not sure if it's good, I'm using malwarebytes atm, but malwarebytes only scans whenever you tell it to

These are what I recommend to have, as I have never had an issue:

 

Microsoft Security Essentials

AND

MalwareBytes

 

However, some other good ones:

• AVG

• Avast

• BitDefender

• Kaspersky

 

The only two I highly recommend avoiding like the black plague:

• Norton

• McAffee

What do you mean MalwareBytes doesn't scan by itself? It has a Scheduler... Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.

It'll do its job by itself.

 

I say just get MSE and keep MalwareBytes. Usually your best bet.

Windows 7 has Microsoft Security Essential which actually detected something my Kasperky didn't one time, which made me lose faith in Kasperky. Windows 8 comes with Bitdefender I believe.

Yeah aren't there better ones online? Free ones. I still find infections or w/e with malwarebytes, bitdefender scans my PC regularly

I think malwarebytes handles a different field of security though. Bitdefender is more for viruses/trojans/obfuscated files, whereas malwarebytes deals with malware/registries I thought?

In that case, did you scan with bitdefender before the malwarebytes scan? Or did malwarebytes scan and found it first?

Bitdefender performs a quick scan I believe about every day? So bitdefender scanned weeks before I got malwarebytes

If you are using Windows 8 it comes with Windows Defender. I would also recommend running a full scan with MalwareBytes often.

I would recommend Avast. There's a free version of it and it does the job. Just be sure to avoid Norton and McAfee.

Im personally using Comodo Firewall (free version) It will basicly ask you if any application wants to make a connection to a network. It is easy to use, but it also has some really indepth stuff.

From my experience with avg, was the best free antivirus. As far as paid goes it falls short of others. That being said I was using avg about a year ago so things could have changed.
