Hey there, I recently bought a new SSD that I would like to use as my main windows drive. However, I've tried cloning my HDD and tried booting up my SSD in boot priority with no success. I have now also bought an extra USB stick for windows, and would still like to change it so my main windows drive is my new SSD. Can someone help me with what exactly I need to do?

Dunno what software you used but Macrium's Reflect always works fine by me as long as you clone it the right way: same exact order of partitions on the HDD to the SDD you want to clone, with the last partition should be your old C drive.

Unfortunately so far, afaik that Windows install media only allows you to completely reinstall Windows, not moving them.

Humor me, as you should do.

Wouldn't I still need to change the boot priority though? When I tried it last time, it always gave me an error with "I should reboot and select a proper boot device"

It is, try to remove the HDD SATA cable from the mobo and see if it works. If it doesn't, try redo the cloning, or... As @HelpfulTechWizard said.

Edit: if using Macrium's Reflect, the clone SHOULD look like so. See how all 3 partition from the NO NAME to Windows (C), it must be the same on the drive you want to clone into. You can expand the C later on, but don't change anything on the 1 and 2.

So I've just done some upgrade changed my CPU, MOBO and RAM and I'm trying to clone my current boot drive to my new NVME SSD with Macrium. To clone it I've just been clicking the check next to drive and then clicking clone drive and selecting the new SSD. So far this has not worked and I've been left with a blue screen saying "the boot configuration data for your pc is missing or corrupt". Are there steps that I'm missing that's causing this?

Easiest would be to clone with WinToHDD:

(System Clone from the main menu of course)

I used a program called AOMEI Backupper, i don't know if it cloned the main partition or the whole drive.

I'd change to another software if the one doesn't work. Preferably that Macrium's Reflect (simply because it works on me with no problem so far), or maybe try as @Tan3l6 said.

Is it looks like the same like the one picture on my edited post above? The partition has to be on the same order as the old drive like above.

I did the same thing recently, some disk cloning software isn't capable of cloning/copying in-use files which results in the situation the OP has.

The hardware address has changed in the boot configuration file, you'll have to fix that as well, and the bootloader isn't configured correctly either.

Follow the instructions on this page and you should be up and running on the new drive.
