Hello fellow LTT Forum users,

I am in the process of planning a new build, here's what I've got so far:

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x

GPU: ASUS GeForce GT 1030

Memory: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (8GBx2) DDR4 3000MHz

Motherboard: ASRock B450M Pro4

Storage: Intel 512GB 660p m.2 SSD

PSU: Corsair CV550 80+ BRONZE Certified

I need a case (for about $50-60) to round this build off.

Also, can someone just let me know if I'm making a huge mistake with any of my choices? As I'm really new to this, it would be a big help.

Phanteks Eclipse P300A Mesh

You could've gotten a better PSU and B550 for possibly a similar price. If you plan on upgrading the GPU everything should be good, if not just know you will be extremely bottlenecked by it and may even have to set games to 720p low.

P300a or Phanteks p360a whichever fits in the budget.

As for your build yeah some easy fixes.

For the board get a msi b550 pro a.

Ditch the gt 1030 and get a 5600g it's integrated gpu is basically identical to a 1030.

For ram makes sure you get some 3600mhz cl 16 ram so that igpu is performing at max and beating a 1030.

Skip that ssd it's not good better to just get a solid sata drive like a mx500.

Psu not great not terrible depends on what you want to upgrade to later if it is still usable for that.

The thing is I am really limited by my budget, I can't really afford to go beyond. As for the GPU, I don't really play that many video games so I dont think it would be a problem

Ah ok thanks
I was thinking about the 5600G as well but the idea of a seperate GPU somehow really intrigued me. But yeah I will definitely consider it.
Also if I'm not wrong 5600X is better than 5600G right?

About RAM, again I am really limited by my budget and I thought the speed of RAM doesn't really matter that much. But since I dont need to buy a GPU I will definitely go for better RAM

It's like 1-2% better. Not something you'll notice.

Your wallet will thank you AND you can make other things in your pc better by saving that 130$ ish for the 1030 and about 50$ on the cpu too.

For ryzen it very much so does. BUT speed isn't everything you can have cl 14 2400mhz ram that is faster than 3600mhz cl22 ram because of the much lower cl timings on the slower ram. Hence why I recommend cl16 3600mhz ram as that is common and is a great pairing for ryzen.

You should have plenty of budget by ditching the gt 1030 and getting 5600g to do all of this easily.

Even get a cheap decent cooler in the hyper 212 performance range.

Hey, so the Ryzen 5 5600G and 5600X cost the same in my region...

And yeah I found a decent 3600MHz CL16 option (G. Skill Ripjaws V)

I dont think I really need a cooler as I'm not gonna do anything that intensive on the PC so

And yeah I can afford everything really easily now, thanks!

Neat get the 5600g still then basically same cpu but you get a vega gpu in it too that is as good if not better than a gt 1030 saving you a fair bit of money.

More so for silence reasons. Rather than anything else.

You should get a 5600G like said above and spend the rest on faster RAM, better motherboard and if you can still spend some also a better PSU. Current PSU is fine but can be much better.

5600g > 5600x + 1030.  Saving money and performing better.

Ripjaws V means you're cool, good choice.

Ah that's true

How about the TXM Gold? It's the cheapest at PC Part Picker and only 550W so

TX-M has Japanese capacitors rated at 50C and has no 0 RPM mode. RM has 0 RPM mode, better efficiency and is fully modular. Both are great, but the TX-M should last longer while the RM is quieter. Unless you care about noise I'd get TX-M.

Ah ok, I'll probably go for the TX-M then

Now I just need to find a motherboard supporting 3600MHz RAM and a case for 200 bucks
Couldn't be that hard

I think this is a good B550 board...

If so, that would leave you $90 for a case, which gives you a lot of options.

One question: Motherboard choice doesn't really affect performance right? It's just the features of the motherboard?

Mostly features, but for overclocking or high end CPU's you need one with good VRM's.
