CPU 100C ON IDLE

niisanxd

CPU: i5 8600

COOLER: ELC-LMR120S-BS Enermax Liquid Cooler Liqmax II Series

Previously I had my PC setup with 1 intake fan positioned directly in front of the GPU and my CPU cooler set in a double pull configuration as the exhaust of the case. After getting a new GPU, I began monitoring my temps and noticed my CPU would reach 80C while gaming and idle in the high 40’s-low 50’s. So I figured I would add more intake fans to lower temps. After adding an extra intake fan in front and 2 up top, I disassembled my cooler and blasted the radiator with compressed air to clear up dust. Finally, after reassembling everything, I booted my pc and realized my CPU was reading 100C on all 6 cores. I checked 3 different programs (HWMonitor, iCue, and MSI’s dragon center) and they all came up with the same readings. My cpu was only at 10% load with discord open and I don’t believe I could feel any performance issues while on the desktop with temps that high. I rebooted multiple times to make sure it wasn’t just a software issue. PC never shut off by itself.

I opened my case and felt the cooler’s tubes, I could only feel a vibration in one (I’m not sure if that is normal or not). All fans were spinning at 100%  and installed correctly to be pulling air into the case (arrows on fans pointing in). A tube from the cooler coming off the CPU and the pump on the CPU felt hot to the touch but I was still able to leave my hand on it

Could I have short-circuited something on the MB? Temperature sensor broken? Cooler is not in contact with the CPU after moving and turning the case so many times? Or a dead AIO?

Any suggestions please, thanks.

I’ll purchase new thermal paste tomorrow and reapply it. Will keep y’all updated.

I’d make the top fans exhaust…. But that isn’t going to fix this issue. It’s either a bad mount, or poor thermal paste application. Or the water pump isn’t plugged in.

Also, not a big deal, but “ideally” the water cooler radiator tubes would be on the bottom so air doesn’t get into the tubes at all, let the air “float” up to the top of the rad instead of have it and the tubes at the top.
