Hey guys,

Looks like my laptop is compatible with Windows 11. However, I do not want it to update to Windows 11 ever due to me already liking Windows 10 due to the mods I made on it.

So the question is, how in the world do I make sure that Windows does not suddenly force update me to Windows 11?

Whilst of course still being able to download all of the Windows 10 updates, like security updates and patches etc.

Thanks,
Eli

There’s a time limit on windows 10 now. Win11 may still be in your future.

in which I ruminate pointlessly about OS choices.

Spoiler

I think I may have to get into alt operating systems. I got an extra sata SSD I can load one onto.  I just gotta decide what to go with. I haven’t messed with BSD or Linux in many years. Almost everything I hear about chrome is bad, plus it’s really just a Linux anyway but without the security or freedom (I do not consider ‘we protect you from everyone but us, and no, you can’t stop us from doing anything we want to you’ to be actual security) I worry less about apple than google.  Apple is more predictable.  They take their payments in cash.  I’m a customer, not cattle to them.  Maybe I’ll buy a Mac again if they make a machine I like, can use, and can afford all at the same time.  Linux is becoming really game friendly though.  Maybe go that way.  I still don’t know.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Hi ,

It wont automatically download , once the upgrade offer comes to your PC , it will a give prompt in windows update section of settings app , you have 2 options , one is "Download and install windows 11 " and other one is "Stay on windows 10 for now" . Now , you can decide what to do .

Yeah, I've got that option at the moment and have done "Stay on windows 10 for now". Not sure how long that stay period is before it's a forced thing though.

Just hoping that never happens.
