5.1 on a Laptop?

I am thinking about upgrading my speakers and going with a 5.1 channel setup (these speakers http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121044 ). I am currently using a laptop and want to use this ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102035 ) to connect the speakers with.

My question is will this work? Compatibility issues? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I know there are better speakers but I am on a budget.
