I have a Ryzen 5 2600 Galax B450M motherboard, I updated the BIOS update completed succesfully but after the update all I get is black screen. Apparently this update adds support for 5000 series but ends for 2000 series? I have already tried clearing the CMOS and removing the battery. Is there anything I can do to revert back to the old BIOS or should I start saving for a new motherboard?

No one else seems to want to say it so I will. Your options are...

  1. REPLACE CPU: Replace/Upgrade your CPU to a model supported by your MOBO/BIOS version.

  2. REPLACE MOBO: Replace your motherboard with one that can support your 2000 series CPU. This means checking  and verifying BIOS compatibility or you'll just land right back in the same predicament.

  3. RECOVER: Replace your CPU with one compatible with your current BIOS firmware, then restore the BIOS firmware back to a version that supported by your 2000 series CPU. Then after the BIOS downgrade put your original CPU back in.

When do you get the black screen? While going through the bootloader or after POST? If it's windows that is giving you the black screen, try installing Clear Linux, mageia, Nobara Project, Void Linux, or Artix Linux. Or you can try a 'live CD/USB' to see if these operating systems support the BIOS+CPU combination.
