I was watching a video a few weeks ago and the guy was sponsored by nordvpn.  But he had an interesting spiel for using a VPN for subscribing to services for the cheap.  I'll link to the timestamp here so you don't need to watch the whole video:

I was just wondering if anyone can confirm it works?  Do you need to connect to the VPN to still use those services?

I am from South America, and I moved to the US. Lets assume it works perfectly, the system is a bit more complicated and I will explain why.

In South America, Advertisements that YouTube show are much less and hold less value, as such removing those ads would cause a small dent in the ad reach.

Compared to the US where more advertisements are shown with much more value, as such the cost is higher.

By value, an example would be like a big brand like Chase banking, compared to ads in south America which can sometimes be overseas brands, but mostly are some random online game or nothing that would really affect the end user.

Also there are a lot of region blocked content on YouTube The main area this comes up though is music, so much music is blocked in South America. You might not realise though since the song can  be reposted by another user and revenue shared but remains open to more countries. Youtube Music struggles with this though, since all the audio comes from video with the same URL.

SO a music.youtube.com/song is linked directly to www.youtube.com/song (you can try this on your own, it works both ways, you can watch video on youtube music and find the video of a song on Youtube)

So If I create a playlist of songs in the US, even by state, the videos/music start to disappear when I change location physically, or by VPN. Also some countries in south America don't have Youtube music as well.

For the other sites there could be some merit, but for Youtube specifically it might not be depending on what you use it for.
