Phone never gets new android updates

Azi12345

So i have a lg g7 thinq. The problem is that it still runs android 8.0 the original launch version. But didn't get any updates since then. Any ideas why? I mean i can update it manually but I'm asking here just to be sure there isn't any other problem.

LG was horrendous with software updates and lagging behind their Android competitors. You don't have to worry about getting a new update anytime soon as LG has decided to exit the smartphone business.

The G7 did get a Android 10 update, back in August of 2020. That was the last update made for it, and it apparently didn't make it through all carriers. Though, it might be possible to manually flash the update, even if your carrier never supported it. For that, I would consult with a forum like XDA.

The sad reality is, all devices that aren't Google's own phones or iPhone are terrible when it comes to software support. Samsung is maybe the only exception and even that at the higher end models and higher A series.

Given how LG just dumped the mobile devision, it's unlikely you'll still get any updates at all since it's over 3 years old now.
