FX-6300+1650????

BIPUStheTHIRD
Go to solution Solved by Oshino Shinobu,

Wouldn't advise it. I can't say how much it will bottleneck for sure, but the FX 6300 is really not a good processor now days. It also means you're on a platform where basically any upgrade to the CPU will then involve changing the board and RAM too as AM3+ is a dead platform and DDR3's actually getting pretty pricey.

Ok so basically I am getting a good deal on a pc parts bundle that includes an fx 6300 as the cpu. I already own a 1650 (shortened) and im going to pair them together. Im sure there will be a bottleneck and the 1650 wont be up to full potential but how much bottleneck?

FX6300 is actually a 3 core with SMT/HT and dramaticly low IPC. I shouldn't use it at all.

PSU doesn't look decent. What's the make and model of that unit?

That CPU is ass and it's basically a "pseudo-hexacore". I am not sure how much it will bottleneck the 1650, but even a Ryzen 3 1200 is faster than that CPU, so yeah... I really hope you haven't paid that much for that system.

havent bought it yet. roughly 93 dollars but i can reconsider. i already own an i5 2500 but im not sure if its working, so ill get something else. any recommendations ? i have probably 100 GBP which is roughly 140 USD.  I need a motherboard which is lga 1155, which i can risk using my untested i5 2500 or a motherboard + cpu which would be best to use with my 1650. thanks for the help

While AM3+ is a dead platform, since you've got it already I might consider an upgrade to an FX 8350

It was incredibly popular, making it incredbily cheap on the 2nd hand market.
I used one for about 5 years between my Q6600 and Ryzen 5 1600.

Paired well with a GTX 1660ti, so I see a GTX 1650 doing absolutely fine with it!

My rig:

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 3.6Ghz, OC'ed to 4.2Ghz all core @ 1.25v + Corsair H60 120mm AIO

MB: Gigabyte B450 I Aorus Pro WiFi

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast RGB 32GB (2x16GB) 3600mhz CL16 (1-to-1 Infinity Fabric enabled)

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super

*bought for $200 CAD off a friend who needed an RTX 3080, price was my reward.

CASE: InWinn A1 Plus in White with included 600w gold sfx PSU and included custom length cables

DISPLAY: 3x 20" AOC 1080p 60hz 4ms ,  32" RCA 1080p/60hz TV mounted above, all on a single arm.

Storage: C : 1TB WD Blue NVMe      D : 2TB Barracuda      E: 240GB Kingston V300 (scratch drive)

NAS: 240GB Kingston A400 + 6x 10+ year old 700GB Barracuda drives in my old FX8350+8GB DDR3 system

Logitech G15 1st Gen + Logitech G602 Wireless

Steam Controller +  Elite Series 2 controller + Logitech G29 Racing Wheel + Wingman Extreme Digital 3D Flight Stick

Sennheiser HD 4.40 Headphones + Pixel Buds 2 + Logitech Z213 2.1 Speakers

My Girlfriends Weeb-Ass Rig:

Razer Blade Pro 17 2020

That's why I was saying it's useless - it's an offer, he doesn't seem to have that system yet.

The 2500 will be faster if it works.

any recommendations on lga 1155 sandy bridge motherboards?
