Mining on a Supercomputer

Would you need to change the binary files for some algos to be able to fully utilize a super computer for mining? I'm actually not sure how they write programs for large HPCs to scale efficiently so I might need to answer that first. I know they use job schedulers like slurm but that doesn't say much about the jobs it's running. Would it be hard to get a program like hashcat or excavator to run on 2048 GPUs? Thanks

The jobs can be whatever you submit / can run on their systems. Slurm just decides when and where the job will run depending on the resources and runtime you requested. Parallelisation can be done with something like MPI, but more efficient is to probably launch N jobs, where N is the number of available nodes. Otherwise you'd have to request the entire cluster, which will basically never get scheduled 😛

 

Unless their firewall or something blocks it I think it should be pretty much plug and play (and then they'll arrest you: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-43003740). Oh and don't forget to factor in the cost if you pay for core/gpu hours.
