Guys this is my first post on this forum, although i've been following Linus videos for quite a while.

So let me explain my situation right now, i'm Brazilian and married to a Swedish girl and i just moved in to Sweden. For obvious reasons i wasn't able to bring my pc on the plane with me.

I was hoping to ship it to my new home but due to high taxes and costs and the risk of being damaged on the way here i had to gave up on that option.

So i decided to build a new one, but with all the costs of starting a new life in another country i'm on a short budget right now.

I've been using Intel for the past generations and have been very happy with the performance.

And would really like to stay with intel, but the cheapest I3 i could find here would set me back for 1100SEK, and i can get and Athlon II X4 760k for as cheap as 600SEK or even a FX 6300 for 900SEK

Also i'll be going to visit Brazil during Christmas time so i can disassemble my pc and bring some small parts with me on my backpack.

Now my questions are:

Which processor should i go for? Should i spent a little bit more on an I3, since i''l be bringing my old 4770k with me in December? Or go as low budget as i can now and buy everything new when there is a haswell refresh?

Can someone be so kind and explain me all of these amd sockets? AM1, AM3, AM3+, FM2, FM2+... What are the difference between all these options? Would a AM3+ be retro compatible? Does the same goes for FM2+?

The build will be used as a gaming / media center computer, so i'll be using as small form factor case. Node 304 or Bitfenix Phenom.

For the graphic card i'll go with the EVGA 750ti, that i plan to upgrade as soon as i get my financial part organized , most probably when nvidia releases the 800 series.

I'll be playing all games on 1080p, no 4K or multiple displays intended with this build.

Sorry for the long text, and thanks for any help!

Btw suggestions on the build are more than welcome!

I'd get a FX6300 and a R9 270. Where I live 270 is same price as 750ti and is considerably faster.

You want to get a modern socket.

  • LGA1150
  • AM3+
  • FM2+

Thank you for the welcoming words!

So the maximum i can afford to spend right now is 6000SEK, somewhere around 900 dollars, but again prices are different here in Sweden. And i already have, keyboard, mouse, display and headphones.

I'm not intending to overclock it since it will be small form factor case and i'm planing to save a few bucks on the cooler right now, going with the stock one included and shop for an aftermarket one whenever i refresh my build.

I already have another build with a 4770k but is back in my old country, and i wont be able to put my hands on it till December, the earliest...

Thanks for the suggestion on the R9 270, but it is fairly more expensive here and is out of stock in almost all of the retailers i could check.

I like cases that have a clean and minimalist style to go with everything in my living room.

Was thinking something like the node 304 or the bitfenix phenom. Not very fond of stuff like msi gaming series, with red dragons and flames everywhere. LOL, not my style.

And silent is a must! Nothing more annoying than fan noise while you are playing
