SLI Question (PCI express)

So what should I look for in a motherboard for SLI? Do I need 2 pci express @16x or will one at 16x and one at 8x work? Would the latter in anyway bottleneck SLI performance? What about one at 4x? I am new to SLI so any advice and knowledge will be warmly received.

I should be studying.

I depends on your budget, but a Gigabyte GA-Z87-UD4H is a really solid board. Basically all you need is an SLI enabled board, anything that supports your CPU will be just fine.

just look for a motherboard that is sli certified. 1150 only goes to 2xSLI or you need a PLX chip. 2011 can do 4xSLI

Nvidia requires a minimum of x8 for SLI to work, you can't run SLI on a board with one card in an x16 slot and the other in an x4 slot. As long as the board say that SLI is supported it will have the right slots.
