So i got a Ryzen 5800X a While ago and did not really attention to it cus it just worked and im oke with that.

but today if been getting random BSOD's and was looking into it and discoverd and found my CPU runs at 50-60C idle and easily peaks at 90C under any load.

is the CPU broken or is this just a real hot CPU?

My 2700X was perfectly cool at around 60 under load

and i got a decent Noctua Cooler that should be able to cool these wattages cpu

5800x is a hot CPU, for sure. You really want to keep it under 85c ideally, however it hitting 90c means it'll just thermal throttle, not cause a BSOD so you'll want to treat these as separate issues.

I also came from 2700x but Ryzen 5000 cannot be compared to previous generations regarding heat output, they are designed to run happily up to ~85-90c which absolutely was not the case with previous generations.

What Noctua cooler are you using? How is your airflow? I use an EK 360 AIO and see idle temperatures around 32c and during a Cinebench run, see temps peak at around 81c. (-10 curve optimzer/PBO enabled)

its a Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 cooler and airflow is fine and all the other parts got fine temps.

the thing thats concerning me is that its idling at 50+ and with any light load its pegged at 90.

what i think is that the connection between the IHS and CPU is bad or is idle with those temps normal?

Reseat the cooler. 90% of the time this fixes the issue despite users claiming that the cooler is "fine".

Do you have a GPU in that case? I'm sorry to have to tell you but that case is small and very limited in its fresh cool air intake. It does not appear to have any intake fans at all.

You can reseat the cooler with fresh thermal paste but I'm just not seeing how that case is going to adequately cool a 5800x with no direct fresh air intake, especially if you have a GPU.

Do you use the drive cages? I'd ditch them and try to retrofit some intake fans down at the bottom.

It's not as bad as it could be, but it's not exactly great either. It looks like out of the box it relies exclusively on exhaust (negative pressure), with just two 120mm fans included. Did you actually add intake fans to the bottom? Even then, intake could potentially be obstructed both the graphics card and a drive cage. That's fine for cooling the graphics card, but you may be getting very little fresh air to the CPU. Also, the orientation of the PSU intake means it's sucking air from the CPU, which is probably counter to the direction of CPU cooler exhaust. The PSU fan hopefully isn't running constantly, but that can create some weird eddys that could lead to hotspots.

So to explain that the Case airflow is not the problem and i really think something might be wrong with the CPU.

i replaced the fans on the TOP with Noctua Fans and its one 120MM on the back and a 140MM on the top and they are forcing HOT air out of the case and getting cold air back from the bottom.

i also only have one ssd in the drive cage and tested without sidepanel and with extra fan for airflow but even with all the fans running full speed the idle temps wont go under 55C and under load its stuck at 90C at 140W package power
and there is no difference if i fully load my GPU or not

also here a pic of the case and setup.
this is old pic BTW so the HDD is removed and got a different mobo and all the PCI-e slots are blocked with other cards
and this was the system with a 2700x in it that ran cool with this setup, like 30-40c idle

You seem quite adamant that you don't have an airflow problem but I can tell you you absolutely do. Merely relying on negative pressure in such a small case with that much obstruction to provide adequate cooling to a 5800x is just unrealistic. Hell, those idle temps for a 2700x were higher than they could have been but 5800x and all Ryzen 5000 is going to be much higher, you can't use your 2700x as a point of comparison.

With that case and that borderline inadequate cooler, I can absolutely see how you're getting the results you're seeing.
