Maybe get a mic of your choice first and test it out with your current PC audio setup. If still not satisfied, maybe try the xonar d-kara. It's supposed to be tuned toward better microphone usage. But I think it can only take analog mic input though....

Um, no. It's an audio port, not a graphics card. It's not like you'll get worse performance just because you plugged it into the motherboard. The onboard DAC on motherboards is usually the problem, not the other way around.

You very well could get worse performance.

 

Microphones have a very low level output, and require alot of amplification to get to normal levels, this is done by the preamps in the interface. Cheap, poorly made preamps (most likely the ones used on a sound card) won't sound very nice, while the nice ones on proper interfaces or boards will.
