My PC seems to be having a hard time powering-on lately and I'm suspecting it's the PSU's problem. It is a ten-ish y/o Seasonic X-Series 650W, with other major components being the 3700X, X570 C8H and GTX1080.

In the case where I really need to get a new PSU, I want one that should support my next upgrade cycle (maybe late 2022), with 5900x/RTX3080/6900XT power-class hardware, which PSU should I get?

I have budget for a Seasonic TX-1000 / Prime Ultra Titanium, but not so much for an AX1600i (which I probably don't need anyway).

Would've chosen the Seasonic if not for the potential issues with high power graphics cards. I don't want to spend so much on a PSU but still having need to worry about support and stability. It feels like kind of defeating the purpose of getting an expensive PSU at least for me.

@kazenorin I have split your question from the PSU tier thread since you need help on which PSU to choose.

What country / vendor's website are you buying from?

By "not able to power on", I mean apparently nothing happens when I press the power buttons (both buttons, the case button and the one on the mobo). Oddly enough, flicking the PSU power switch off powers on the system for a brief second. Also, the trick by holding the power button on and flicking the PSU power switch on would normally power on the PC. After powering on, everything works normally and I could game on it stably with no issues at all.

I am unsure whether it's just the PSU or some nasty stuff like electric shorts. So yesterday I removed each component one by one and tried to power the PC on. Unsurprisingly, it started powering on when I removed the graphics card (GTX1080). It seems like the PSU couldn't take the boot-up power surge? At least this does not seem to be a short?

Reseated the graphics card and it seem to work normally, passed several power cycles without any issue. Until this morning when it refused to power on again. 😞

Unfortunately we don't have be quiet! PSUs here, there are be quiet! cooling solutions but not PSUs 😞

Some local store prices converted to USD for reference:

Corsair models:

HX850 Platinum $190

HX850i $190

HX1000 Platinum $205

HX1000i $235

RM850x White $165 (probably 2018 model, CP-9020188-UK)

RM1000x $160  -- less expensive than RM850x, because old? (probably 2015 model, CP-9020094-UK)

AX1000 $270

Others:

Enermax REVOLUTION D.F. 850 (ERF850EWT) $130

Seasonic Ultra Titanium 1000W (TR) $285 -- originally considering this, if not the potential issues with ampere cards

Seasonic TX1000 $335 -- considering this might have the exact same issue with ampere cards, i think this is too much of a risk for the price
XPG Core Reactor 850 $130

Taking the tier list, the price and recommendations into account, I'm leaning towards HX1000 Platinum right now.

I'm buying from Hong Kong, likely from brick-and-mortar stores. Stocks from local distributors for proper warranty.

We don't have the "full catalog" to choose from, as it's largely up to the distributors to decide what to import. That said, there still seems to be a somehow large range of PSU brands to choose from, just maybe not the ideal wattage.
