Wireless LAN controllers and routers

Hey guys I’m wondering if you need a router if you have a wireless lan controller or if the controller can do the router functions. I am trying to add a wlan controller to my network so that I don’t have to keep switching the access point that I am connected to when I walk around my house. I don’t want to have to buy a mesh system I’d rather use the hardware I already have and maybe just add a wlan controller.

The WLAN Controller just does the management of the WAPS, you'll still need a router.

Do you know if the  access points and controllers need to be from the same brand or is it like they all should work with each other.

WLAN controllers and WLAN-Controller compatible WAPs are only made by one company: Cisco.
