My pc started to ramdonly freezing with no response whatsoever(only the audio keeps playing) and after about 1min after it cuts video signal. I decided to check event log to see what is happening and there is a critical error there: Kernel-Power Event ID:41 .I have also been noticing some stutters while playing Dota 2 or CoD Warzone, stutter that never happened before. At the time i also noticed that one time when i plugged in my phone my mouse and keyboard cycled power for some reason.

Additional Information:

  • It started when i was running Windows 11 Beta, so i did a clean install to win 11 again but no luck, so i came back to good ol Win10
  • Tried to roll back video driver to known stable version and nothing
  • Disabled AMD ftpm in BIOS to see if it was causing the issue, and no luck
  • I had to RMA my mobo due to energy problems and got a new one
  • I had issues with the new mobo in the past but a simple clear cmos and clean install solved it
  • PC is about a year old, if this problem is related to Mobo or GPU i have until october to activate the warranty, PSU and RAM i have about 9 years left lol
  • Mobo is running latest BIOS
  • The most recent system freeze did not cut video signal, pc just rebooted after freezing.

PC SPECS:

  • AMD RYZEN 7 3700X
  • NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2070 SUPER ZOTAC
  • XPG Gammix D10 2x8GB 3200MHz DDR4
  • Adata Falcon 512GB NVme
  • Seagate 1tb 7200rpm HDD
  • ASUS TUF GAMING B550-PLUS
  • Corsair RM650

I am beginning to suspect that the motherboard might be the issue at fault here. Really need some help solving this since i only have one month left of warranty for most parts.

How old is this thing?  Does it have -current bios?

if it was solved by clear cmos and a clean install it wasn’t a hardware issue it was a software issue.

with a “new” motherboard you likely got a “new to you” motherboard that someone else had sent back and had been fixed.

B550 is new.  I would be more likely to expect a dying motherboard in a 3xx series than a 5xx series.  If it’s really new though (like weeks) it may be an actual hardware issue.

Thing is new to be dying unless it’s very new. Hardware tends to fail very soon after being put into service because of a manufacturing error in some part or attachment or after it’s service life is over.  If it’s very new an RMA could be a good idea because motherboards have been a lot safer to RMA than GPUs.  There’s a lot that can go wrong with a PC though. You’ve got an older (though not very old) cpu in a motherboard that came out after that chip so there may be bios issues.  Have you updated to the latest bios? Keeping up bios and drivers is a thing for AMD because they can often fix a problem that is found with a bios update.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Every part will complete a year in october except for the motherboard that had power related issued and i had to RMA, the current one is from early March. Latest chipset drivers and BIOS installed, latest nvidia driver also installed

EDIT: about that new to you mobo thing you said, i used the RMA in the store, here in Brazil Asus have a partnership with the retailer, they just really sent a new one.

Ugh. Sounds like a possible RMA to me too.  That sound thing is messed up. I’ve heard of issues with sound continuing to play after a game locks up but I don’t remember what happened or where the problem was.   I heard recently about a problem with the firmware in a keyboard recently causing problems of all things.  The only warranty that matters is the one for the mobo if you want to RMA the mobo. I don’t know how that works.  You might be limited in time because everything works off the warranty from the original purchase. So there might be only a month left on that warranty too even if the board is newer to you. Legal issue specific to how that works with that manufacturer.  I have no idea.  Is this a different kind of problem than the one you had or the same?

When they sent me a new one, they opened a new order and the new warranty is until march 2022 on the mobo.  Original problem was the ethernet adapter not turning on and after a few days when i tried to power it on it just lit up and shut down, to turn it on i had to try a few times for it to work. When i received the new one after some time the ethernet problem returned but it went away with clear cmos and clean install, probably a driver issue, altough sometimes it takes it time to turn itself on.

I just realized that if it is indeed the mobo its fault appeared 4 months after use just as the first one, could it be my PSU damaging it over time?

Corsair rms have a pretty good rep.  PSUs are hard to home check though.  Unlikely. Little is impossible though.  If you have to take the machine down getting it checked out before the warranty is up does little additional damage.  I personally wouldn’t be surprised if it came back with a “this is fine.  You’re paranoid” and possibly a rude note in Chinese though.

Possibly, just the mobo then hahahahah. This time i will probably ask for refund and get a different model, im kinda sick of TUF models, already had to rma mine and my brother's mobo was dead on arrival. Probably gonna go RoG this time or Asroc steel legend

Okay so additional info, since i returned to windows 10(about 24 hours ago) i did not have any freezing issues but i noticed something odd now, on discord calls sometime my friends voices gets distorted and while watching HBO Max on chrome i experienced a lag while playing, kinda like a slow-motion in one scene. I think im on a state of being either overly sensitive to little things or getting paranoid now but would these issues still point to the Mobo?
