Wifi Cards.

Nerocosm

Hello, I am looking into wifi cards for my boyfriends computer he's going to be starting a job from home on the computer and wants to have an office space away from the rest of the home. However are router is in the main room and we don't want to run a 100' ethernet cable throughout our home so I've been looking at purchasing a wifi card. I've either always had wifi built in such as my laptops and what not but when it actually comes to the computer I've always ran a cabled connection so I'm not 100% sure what exactly I should be looking for when it comes to this kind of thing there seem to be a lot of options when it comes to this though. Could anyone point me in the right direction of a good sff pcie card I know how to install it and everything just would like some insight.

Can't really go wrong with the ASUS PCE-AC58BT, which is just an upgraded version of the AC55BT I have. Inexpensive and they work just fine. Only complaint I can think of is that the antenna solution really should have magnets in it, but it does not.

Ive always read that Intel wireless chipsets are the best. Thats at least a direction. Id also suggest getting an WiFi card with one of those antennas connected via cables. Why? Well it allows you to place the antennas where they will get the best signal from the router.

Power Line is the best solution.

Power line is a solution, not the best solution. Power line has a lot of issues. High draw appliances can cause connectivity issues. Long cabling runs will make things slow. Crossing breakers will cause issues. If you have to cross a phase then its probably going to be worthless. Power line is only the better solution if the router and computer are on the same circuit. The OP is from the US, Im from the US, generally each ROOM is on its own circuit, unless the electrical is very old, and if the electrical is old then there is a good chance power line adapters wont work. Power line adapters are just as hit or miss as WiFi. If you want a good alternative that would be Moca, but Moca uses Coax, so you need to have Coax pre ran.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
