plex plex doesn't show directories

i'm on pop_os and i downloaded plex and there's nothing, i've been stuck for hours, i've tried almost everything i could find online, idk what to do it doesn't show anything after the main folder, so i go into /home/user/ and that's all it can see, i've tried giving permission with chown command and chmod, non of them work, tried installing from ppa cuz someone sed it fixed it for them but that didn't work either, any help would be appreciated
