I purchased a brand new 6600 XT plugged it in and launched the PC with no problems. Then I turned on WoW and maxed out the graphics and practically 10 seconds afterwards, the PC froze so I had to hard reset. Now the PC is trying to boot into BIOS by resetting 3 times and then simply staying in a black screen state until I hard reset it. Fans spin and GPU RGB works. The only solution so far I found is to reset CMOS, use 1 ram stick and put it on XMP since manual overclock causes the same issue mentioned before. Other things I tried include:

  • reseatting cables and RAM
  • clearing CMOS
  • taking out battery
  • trying to boot without SSD and GPU

parts list (my gpu is the MSI gaming x model but I couldn't find it): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rHfWF8

I did manually overclock my RAM for a long time but I kept it at about 1.4V so I think it's safe.

What would be the optimal course of action for me right now? I bought a ryzen 3600 and waiting for it to arrive but for now I can try another RAM/PSU right? Should I just RMA the mobo without testing different solutions since my mobo is pretty bad? One important thing to note is that my previous mobo died 6 months ago but it didn't power on at all so I'm kinda afraid that this PSU is killing all my motherboards.

Can we all address the elephant in the room? Your system works fine until you manually overclock the RAM? Maybe stop doing that. Your OC isn't as stable as you thought...

He says it works with XMP enabled, but not with his manual overclock. So no, he's not back to default if it's on XMP.

It works with both XMP enabled and disabled, XMP is supposed to be rather safe as far as I know. If I manually adjust even 1 timing the PC doesn't post and I think that my overclock was pretty safe since I was at 1.14 SOC voltage and 1.35 DRAM voltage on this mobo.

EDIT: also the important part is that I can only run 1 RAM stick or the PC doesn't post

You know your current cpu is not officially supported by the motherboard? Wait for the 3600 to arrive.

Ok, now the real elephant in the room. How did he make the cpu work when its not supported?

Could that damage something?

Yeah the shop I bought it from really cheaped out on me. I had a decent midrange B450 board but they didn't have it in stock so they gave me their cheapest available MOBO.

On some A520 MBs Zen an Zen+ works, but for how long? When it works you're lucky, when it don't it's normal. Also on B550.

I don't think there's something damaged. Only his cpu isn't working anymore on the MB.

You cannot RMA a motherboard if the CPU being used on it is not officially supported by the manufacturer.

AMD themselves claimed that the A520 is not compatible with the 2000 series.

Like everyone else said, wait for the 3600 to arrive.

What you can do while waiting is to try a BIOS update to see if they did any improvements on the stability of the 2400G or at least avoid any trouble with the coming 3600.
