Hey yall. I recently acquired a STRIX RTX 3080 and was excited to upgrade, but I'm not sure if I'm crazy because I feel like my frames are low.

My Specs:

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro
MOBO: Asus ROG Strix Z370-E Gaming
GPU: ASUS Strix RTX 3080
CPU: i7-8700K
RAM: Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 3200MHz
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 GA, 80 Plus Gold 850W
COOLER: Noctua NH-D15

[Cold War is installed in an SSD]

Video: https://youtu.be/KNFYlITYIak

Note: So after installing the card and some days of use I decided to use DDU to wipe the drivers [I previously had a STRIX 2080] and reinstall the Nvidia drivers to see if that would help, but there wasn't much change.

I hope someone has an idea of what is going wrong, I appreciate any and all help!

Game: COD Cold War

Basically all low settings except shadows.

So perhaps not enough fps? Hard to know when the number isn’t listed.  Reasonably fast 6/12 chip with enough cooler and PSU to OC.  Are you?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

My bad, I'll edit it to include a pic, I linked a video with more details. But yeah, I'm pretty sure my GPU is OC, haven't OC'd my CPU. Running at like 1980MHz.

Cpu will have some clock in it.  Would only matter if you’re not burying your video card though.  Things can only go as fast as the slowest elephant. Looks from the pics like things should be pretty balanced as is.  You’re running really low percentages in both cpu and gpu though which implies there’s some sort of problem.  Your cpu running hot btw?  Shouldn’t.  Am thinking of that plastic sheet episode from LTT amongst other possibles.  Something is up though.

1 of those problems is low settings, and probably low resolution, it wont max out anything that way.

needs a lot more data / info to know if there even is a problem .

Hmm I didn't know ~65 was hot 😕 though I doubt I left any sort of plastic wrap on it. I've had this CPU for 3-4 years now. I've noticed that about my GPU, being low usage, but I haven't been able to figure that out

when i run max settings at 1440p [I have a 1440p 240Hz and 1440p 140hz monitors] I get about 120fps.

In terms of the OC, it means that I have a curve made but I only run it when I game. Wasn't a matter of me not knowing. Besides, it's the OC ver of the strix card.

65 is only hot if it’s idling. I didn’t see any temps but if temps are 65 under load there’s nothing there.

ok that does sound there could be a problem (i say could because i dont actually know what frames you should be getting in this game)

Alright, so what i suggest to do is, dont use the overclock, just let the card do its thing.

Then, run at high settings, 1440p  (thats what we need to look at, low settings arent really relevant with such a setup)

And then you also should try to configure your afterburner  overlay like this:

20210731_180956.thumb.jpg.644a9282ed76a75be9566ff4eb55f944.jpg

*that* is all the data you should be looking at for "bottlenecks"

you can take some screenshots in different situations in the game and post them… should be "something" visible if there's an issue with your system.

(and yes, i made this in a way it really shows *everything* thats relevant to performance, generally )

edit: for GPU you just need overall usage, the other two points are irrelevant in this case (third row)

I'll do all of this tomorrow and reply to you once again. Thanks for the help!

I’m not used to reading such stuff.  My fault. So not a temp problem either. I was reading those numbers as use percentages.  Apparently the ones next to it are those.  If we get this fixed you may want to OC your cpu.  It seems to be working a bit harder than the gpu. Not maxed though so no change there.

No problem , and ok!

Also just in case some things arent clear

FPS

FRAMETIMES

GPU USAGE

GPU FREQUENCY

GPU TEMP

VRAM

DEDICATED VRAM

GPU VOLTAGE

GPU FANS

CPU USAGE

CPU TEMP

CPU THREADS (CORES) 1

to

THREAD 12

(if you have more, add them all)

yeah, temps are low because usage seems low, we really need more data, there gotta be at least 1 bottleneck…

Hard to know what though.  Lots of possibles. Interfering software would be one, odd setting another.  Memory maybe? More commonly an AMD thing though and this is intel.  Tempted to kill the overclock just to make sure it’s not getting in the way.  Put it back later when everything is in a box.

looks good! well, there is no obvious bottleneck, like at all.

you could maybe also add cpu frequency tho, thats the only thing i could think of right now, even tho that doesnt make a lot of sense, if frequency was low, usage should be much higher. 🤔

Is the 61fps just random or does it stay like that?

Also, how much fps did you get with the 2080?
