Hi

My printer from brother model : MFC-9330CDW doesn't recognize the dark ink

Anyone have an idea off what to do ?

Inkjet printer? Head might be clogged.  I avoid inkjets if I can personally because I find they have even more problems than laser printers.  Some stuff laser printers don’t do well though.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Time to buy a new one.  I would avoid getting refurbished ones, they tend to leak.

Its brand new the one I have

This printer was connected to a pc that was part off a cyber attack at my mom's work is it possible that's the cause ?

What is the error message on the printer?

I assume you already tried this:

Yes have already tried that

It's not an error code it's just the normal message telling me to change the cartridge

But my cartridge is brand new and have tried 3 different ones

Laser printers use toner not ink.  They’re sort of like photocopiers

A refurbished cartridge?  Might be true.  If it does it was not correctly refurbished.  New ones tend to be massively more expensive.  Worth checking prices though.

Laser printers don’t have ink at all.  They have toner. There are multicolor laser printers but they are somewhat unusual.  The z is interesting.  Could be a bit like cheezit, which is not actually made of cheese.

Yeah I just didn't now the name for it in English sorry

I really don't get it I've tried resetting it to factory settings and all

But the thing is this printer was in an office where the server had a cyber attack and it was connected at that moment and the day after it didn't work anymore always this message telling me to change the black toner even though it's brand new and was working the day before

Idk anything about hacking and all that is it possible they somehow blocked the printer or something

Hmmm.. a lot of old printers had full on cpus in them, just not the same kind as used in PCs.  As powerful, but different.  I’ve heard of hacks that use networked printers because they tend to have very primitive defenses.  I heard of one that used a grocery store meat scale for a similar reason.   Those things often didn’t have just firmware though, they had ROMs. I wonder if a factory reset may be in order.

I've already tried a factory reset and doesn't I'm going to try and update the firmware maybe that'll do something

Might.  If it’s got firmware the firmware needs to be rewritten.  Also whatever malware might have been in the printer could have spread to your network.  The “dunno what it is so kill everything with fire” solution is rewrite everything in the machine that can be rewritten and go over everything it was connected to with a fine tooth comb.  Stuff that can attack old obscure things like printers will be advanced if it’s malware.  Advanced malware can be incredibly difficult to kill.
