i'm thinking of getting a 3060 when prices are normal. nvidia says to have at least a 550w psu but i have a 450w. pcpartpicker says my whole build only uses 378w(with 3060) tho. do i really need a 550w psu if my build only uses 378? also i googled that it uses 170w max which is what pcpartpicker said so it's not off in power. and a calculator website also said recommended 450w minimum

Yes but as I explained for reasons above, they give that number to encompass all system configurations to make sure nobody puts a 170w gpu into a system with a 240w psu because “175 + 65 = 235 so I’m good!”

An RTX 3060 draws about 180 watts of power under peak load at stock clocks. Working the rest of your system around that wattage can give you an actual wattage requirement. If the rest of your system is 100 watts, 280w total, you only really need a 400w psu including 100 watts of headroom

The psu does need to be able to handle the spiking of the card hence their 600w recommendation as well most lower power mid ranger psu's just won't be able to handle that and trigger their ocp.

So for op what exact psu is it?

We need to know what PSU it is, and what parts the rest of the build has.

I ran a 3060Ti and 2600x just fine with a 500w. Also ran a Vega56 in that system with the 500w and also had no issues.

But it was a decent quality 500w supply and the 2600x is fairly sensible on power.

If its paired with one of the recent intel furnaces that can peak >200w or is a garbage tier 450w, then clearly its not going to be a great idea.

This will do really well.

you *might* get away with the 450?  But if you can upgrade, it'd be better for your overall build.

Just because it says 450, doesn't mean you get all 450W in a usable fashion.

I Can't find what that has for 12V Amperage, so IDK, but that seems like  an...  okay (?) PSU?  Not good, just okay.

Corsair CXM has a double forward topology and double forward is a no go with the latest videocards. I recommand to replace it for a PSU with LLC on the primary. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/wkWBD3/adata-xpg-core-reactor-650-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-corereactor650g-bkcus is an oustanding PSU and has an amazingly low price ATM.

3200 MT/s RAM is useless because it never runs faster than 2666 on B460 with a i5-10xxx cpu.

Pure Power 11 in not a good choice and the price is way to high.

The bigger question is do you have the proper number of pins on the power cable? I had to swamp a PS out when my old card used a 4 pin and the new one used 6. As for wattage I always used 300w for the system then add the GPU to that.

my gpu is plugged in with 8 pin
