2.4 GHz wifi problem

When I'm using my wifi's 2.4ghz option I have bad ping spikes which go away when I switch to 5ghz but I also have the same ping spikes on my phone's hotspot which is also 2.4ghz. Does anybody know to fix this since my problem only seems to be happening on 2.4ghz connections.

The 2.4 is probably just littered with other signals.

Is there a way to reduce the congestion since I've had no problems with the 2.4ghz connections until recently.

Any new devices in your home? Bluetooth in particular? Microwaves, smart home devices, wifi cameras, wireless mouse / keyboard etc. These have all been known to cause 2.4 congestion or dropouts. Also make sure your router isn't bogging down due to qos options. Qos implementation on run off the mill routers is usually crap, I usually suggest not using it.
