By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

I cannot stand GNOME. Ubuntu IIRC uses Wayland as default and Mint is so far stuck to Xorg. Wayland can cause issues on intel and nvidia gpus but is allegedly pretty good on AMD graphics. I prefer Mint all the way, it is debian based and uses ubuntu repositories.

I don't like anything Debian or Ubuntu-based so personally not a fan of either one, but would pick Mint due to its lighter footprint, better DE, and lack of Wayland out of the box.

There is no "which distro is better or which is worse". Everyone has different priorities and taste - some prefer the mother, some prefer the daughter. A lot of people like Ubuntu, a lot of people like Linux Mint. Try them both out and draw your own conclusion, which suits you best.
