FPS ISSUES

I recently upgraded my PC from a i5-8400, to a i7-8700k and have been experiencing significantly lower fps (50-100fps) in every game that I've played, as well as fps drops. It was my first time changing cpu, but i felt like everything was done somewhat properly. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening. Thanks in advance :)

current specs:

i7-8700k

RTX 2070

ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME B360M-K (LGA1151)

16gb ram

ST1000DM010-2EP102 (HDD)

KINGSTON SA400S37240G (SSD)

your board's VRM can't handle the 8700k is my guess.  Grab a Z370 for cheap off fleabay

Try reinstalling Windows and resetting BIOS. This is something I recommend for major upgrades like CPU and GPU. For small things like RAM and PSU it's not needed. 

 

Also check if you run your RAM at XMP, maybe it reset somehow because of the CPU upgrade.
