Fan speeds problem

So I went to the bios and I seen something dealing with fan control. When I click it what do I do from their. It shows my fans and their rpm's but I dont know how to control it.

This whole “reading the manual” part is important.  There are a couple ways it could be done off hand.  Usually it is some sort of graph which says run fans attached to [x] fan header when [y] temperature sensor reads [z] run the fan at [xx] speed. Most often that is expressed as a percentage of max speed. There should be several levels creating a curve of sorts.  How those variables are set though varies a lot

So recently I have been having a issue where my fans will spin at 100% and then stop. It will do this randomly at times. Sometimes it does it for only 1-2 cycles and other times for hours. This happens when I am just watching YouTube videos or browsing the internet as well as when I play games. I figured it does this with games to cool my components off but I have no idea why it spins at 100% and then stops when usually its suppose to be at a constant speed. Also when it does this my keyboard and mic turn off and then turns back on. As well as my case lights flickers and then goes back to normal. I have no idea where to start or how to fix this. Please any help is appreciated.

My pc parts:

rtx 3080 founders edition graphics card

32gb 3200 ballista ram

AMD ryzen 7 3800x cpu

corsair H100i platinum HE cooler

msi mag b550 tomahawk motherboard

This sounds like a heat or fan ramp thing to me.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Ok, so what about fan ramps? There are a bunch of places they can be set these days.

change the settings in your bios i had this happen with one of my old fans before i replaced it due to age where it would ramp up to 100% then down to 20 ish percent and it would do it rapidly i went into my bios and adjusted the settings and fixed it that way.

I know fan ramps can be set in other places but I never touched those setting it just started happening. Also how do I change the setting in BIOS I am still new to computers.

Bioses are what your machine actually runs.  The real code.  You have an ibm compatible machine made by gigabyte or MSI or whomever and it has its own system.  It is called bios.  all are different so it’s going to be different for different examples.  Very generally though there will be a set of keys to hold down (delete or a fkey are common) when booting that will interupt the automatic loading of windows and send the user to bios.  From there there is going to be something.  It varies.  Used to be that bios stuff was mostly controlled with arrow keys and the mouse often did nothing.  This likely changed.  I suggest looking at your motherboard manual which will have the instructions for your bios in it.

Ok thanks so much. I was able to set curves and hopefully fix the problem. I really appreciate the guidance.

Heh. Let’s see if it works before getting too excited.
