Recently switched out my b350 mobo for a b450 mobo and 4x8GB Tridentz ram. System, fans, and peripherals all come on. The debug light starts on VGA goes away and cycles to BOOT. It stays on the BOOT LED until i press F2 and only F2. There is no video output whatsoever even after pressing F2. I’ve tried HDMI and DP.  Tried booting with 2 sticks of ram, 1 stick of ram , 2 sticks of old ram, and 1 stick of old ram. Cleared CMOS and still same issue. I’ve reseated the graphics card multiple times, tried booting with a windows install and again no video output at all

Specs :

Ryzen 7 1800x

EVGA RTX 2060 XC

B450 max gaming wifi carbon

4x8GB G-Skill Tridentz RGB

1TB SSD

750W PSU

Did you change memory too?  I vaguely recall ryzen1 being quite persnickety about memory.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

yes memory was changed as well however the same issue arises with my old G-Skill memory. I checked compatibility for my mobo and everything i have in it currently is compatible

As in on the QVL list?  If you had memory that was working it probably still does and the problem is elsewhere.

This video was taken after i pulled the CMOS battery out for a few minutes. This time no debug lights came on , however still no video output , yet the graphics cards fans are spinning indicating it has power.

I’m not sure about “QVL” but i used a site that archives by part numbers

QVL was “qualified vendor list” where the motherboard maker actually tested different brands of memory to make sure they work.  It was something that had become mostly ignored then roared back because of difficult to make work memory.  Your thing might work too.  I dunno.

I feel like there’s something up with the BIOS/Drivers that may be interfering with the GPU. I had an issue with the 2060 a year or so ago where it didn’t have any video signal and i took it back to best buy. Days later i get another with the same issue only this time it fixed itself when i left the computer on. That was with the b350Thomahawk, not this b450. I’m convinced there is something wrong with the board or again, the drivers. If only they made onboard graphics for the MOTHERBOARD rather than a goddamn cpu or dedicated graphics.

Reinstalling drivers is easy. Changing out a board less so.

Would you mind explaining how to reinstall/wipe the drivers i have currently? Will i need another computer and access to my SSD that has my windows install? I honestly hate messing with software and wouldn’t mind changing mobos out … i’m lazy

Drivers are just software.  Wouldn’t need a second computer. Just download the newest drivers for your hardware and install em.  BIOSes can be more annoying but you still shouldn’t need another computer.  Not sure what you mean by “access to your SSD” is it not attached?

Ah see i can’t even get the computer to display an output let alone boot into windows or i would. My other option would be to switch out mobos, again, hope that there’s nothing wrong with the graphics card and go from there. unfortunately i’m in possession of a 2000$ paper weight rather than a computer.

Couldn’t hurt to try the old motherboard with the old ram and see if it works.  If it does it’s something software or having to do with the new hardware.  If it doesn’t it could be your video card is shot or something got updated with your windows install. The scary part is “screen doesn’t light up” can have messes of different causes and things have been changed since the setup.  Could have created a completely different problem instead with the same symptom.

Ah i see. It would probably be worth mentioning that when i installed the new RAM in the OLD mobo a few days ago, it did the samething, only the “VGA” Debug light stayed on indicating something wrong the the graphics card. after which i took the new ram out and put in 1 stick of my original memory yet the debug led still indicated “VGA”. I’m going to try and use the old ram again and try troubleshooting from there to see if i can’t rule out bad memory. I want to say it’s the graphics card being a POS but i don’t have any other cards to test and see if that’s the real issue
