1 gb network split into 2 equal connection

Hey guys I'm sure that there is a topic already but i just wondered if it is possible to split a 1 gb connection into 2 equal 500 mb connections. Thank you

yeah,  but why bother?

Just use a switch, limit the max bandwidth to 500Mb on one thing.

you might be able to do this in your router or you could do it with a managed switch. If you have specific applications that are being hogs then it may be easier to limit bandwidth to specific urls on your router.

 Have roomates and want a equal connection for both. I have currently 5 mb down. Our electric company is setting up fiber for our whole county am so stoked too we live out in the country. Would you advise against that ?

generally you don't need to split it like that,

 

nobody will use a gig of internet constantly.

You're probably right in most cases
