Hi everyone,i just wanted some tech advise on the following topic....i currently have a hp pavilion g6-2011so laptop....2011 model...it has an i5-2430M...i upgraded it from windows 7 to windows 10 last year and since then my processor is struggling to do the basic of tasks...it performs really badly in cpu bound games...i think my laptop has a removable processor so i am thinking of changing it...after searching through google a lot i could only understand that if i have a intel 2nd gen cpu...i can easily just buy another 2nd gen irrespective of it being i3,i5,i7...and just attach it to my lap...can i actually do it.?...if i could do it can anyone say how to do it..i am opting for this method instead of buying a new pc is because of the GPU shortages..i was planning to buy one for 10months but now i can't so i think i have to use this method instead for 2 years atleast

It could work, or not. If your BIOS is programmed to also support other cpu's, you're good to go. Most of the time though, replacing a cpu in a laptop is way too expensive. You're better off selling the laptop and buying a new one, as the HP G6 are a PITA to repair (looking at you, hinges).

Sorry...idk what a PITA is...in youtube there are tutorials of "replacing" the cpu...it was done in the same laptop but a newer version of the laptop

PITA = pain in the ass

I wouldn't risk upgrading such an old laptop where parts almost don't exist. The G6 has VERY bad hinges and they screw to the bottom panel. If you accidentally break one, good luck finding spare parts for it.

If you can find a cpu that fits the socket for a few bucks, I'd say do it. Also do note that the mobile 2000 series Core i7 processors have only 2 cores and 4 threads like the i5 ones.

My old laptop has that CPU too, I upgraded it to an i7-2630QM I think. For me Windows 8.1 and anything before creators update was the smoothest for both.

But yes, you can upgrade it. Chances are that your BIOS won't support it, so I recommend to only get a CPU that was sold in the same model.

Sometimes you can also upgrade to 3rd gen. It will fit in the socket but you will need the Latest BIOS and it would only work if there's a version of your model with 3rd gen.

Disassembling the laptop was easy ..i have done it myself 5 or 6 times to clean the fan

If you want to know ask HP support. I can't find any other supported CPU's so it's probably not gonna work. I've also upgraded a Presario CQ57 to 2430M from Celeron B800 but it didn't work.
