Okay, I am putting together a pc for a friend of mine, and the gpu he has is an MSI GTX 1060 3gb. When it is installed in his motherboard, there is no display out, but when I hooked it up to my test bench, the gpu worked fine. I tested the motherboard with another gpu (EVGA GTX 1060 6gb) it worked fine. I am confused af and don't know what to do. Any help?

It is possible that the motherboard it doesn't work in might be preventing it from plugging in all the way? Did you use different PSUs as well when testing or the same one?

Full specs please. If it's a AMD System take a look at the CPU for bent pins. Happened to me once.

After reading OP, i'm genuinely curious how the CPU could be related. The PC works fine.

I know the psu works, and I have checked to make sure the gpu is all the way plugged in more times than I could count. Thanks for the help though.

Not all pins are required for a PC to run fine. Some pins are directly connected to a PCI slot and some to memory.

Sure, then how does it work with the 1060 6GB card? I'm just saying logic isn't pointing in that direction.

My PC worked with a gtx960 but not with a 5700xt, CPU had some bent pins, worked fine after replacement. Can't explain how that works but it takes 5minutes to check that CPU.

Because some cards use fewer traces than others. Having a PCI 16x connector doesn't mean all pins have to be populated.
