I have a Ryzen 5 3600 processor integrated on a B550M Aorus Pro MB. I have 2 ram sticks of 8 GB each having speeds upto 3600mhz (G.Skill Ripjaws V) . Although I have enabled the xmp profile and set the ram frequency to 3600 mhz with a DRAM voltage of 1.35V, the PC crashes when I start any heavy application with very late responses in the beginning. It runs mostly stable at 3000mhz. Any inputs that I can get to get my ram work faster and efficient ?

My motherboard being Aorus B550M Pro, I have installed it in A2 and B2 i.e., in 2nd and the 4th slot. I have currently set my ram's assets (XMP ,DRAM and frequency multiplier) as seen in the images attached. When I set it to 3600mhz, the latency is huge and the crash occurs. Although I have never tried to set a value of 1.4V as the DRAM voltage as I thought I would be risking the PC. Any leads ??

Load factory default settings, and then enable the XMP profile and change nothing else, no changing timings, voltages, or frequencies. The XMP profile does all that for you.

 

Then, if that isn't working, try increasing your "VCORE SOC" voltage to 1.1V, then 1.15V, then 1.2V. 1.4V for the DRAM voltage is 100% safe. Up to 1.5V DRAM voltage is safe for 24/7 use.

 

If that doesn't work, you may have to settle for 3200Mhz. 3600Mhz is technically an OC which is not guaranteed to work on all chips. 3200Mhz is the max supported speed.

I've tried doing that buddy, but the thing it XMP only manipulates the frequency multiplier and not the DRAM voltage and neither the timings. I have not changed any of the timing settings too. Just FYI, I referred to some videos that say to go with 3600mhz+1.4V+ timings of 18-22-22-42. Please guide me. Will doing this lead to any issue with my core ?

Okay. Then in that case. Try manually setting the memory multiplier to 36 for 3600Mhz, the DRAM voltage to 1.35V, and the standard timings from top to bottom to 19-20-20-20-40. If that doesn't work, then proceed with my VCORE SOC voltage recommendation, or with lowering the frequency to 3200Mhz as I described earlier.

did you change anything in the xmp profile? because im pretty sure voltage is supposed to run on auto and your not supposed to change *anything* while running xmp profiles…

Some people get away with it, for some reason, but in my experience if you change anything  while running xmp you will experience issues.

 

Happened to me trying to oc my ram 3200 > 3600, what finally worked after some trial and error was setting voltage and timings manually.

Basically it goes like for running XMP profiled RAM with high frequencies, you got to increase the DRAM voltage so that there is sufficient power supply for the ram to run at desired speed. Timings is un-touched.

XMP will change the timings and voltage, if it is not changing it is either because the default timings/voltage matches the XMP profile or you have manual settings typed in somewhere.

 

Reset your bios, reboot. Enter BIOS enable XMP, reboot. Now when you enter the BIOS again or go to Windows your settings should now be set to the proper XMP values.

 

1800FCLK simply might not work on your Ryzen 3600, you can try up to 1.2v SOC. If not, you'll have to settle for 3400-3200.

 

If you want to tinker, find the lowest timings you can get with what ever the highest MTs you could get was.
