Hello, im making this forum for a friend. He has a pc with a ryzen 7 2700 and a 1660 ti and 16 gb's of ram. He should be able to play most modern day games on high settings no worries but in 90% of games for some reason his computer just cant do it. For example Far Cry 5 he gets around 40-50fps on ultra which theoretically he should get way more. Its not just that game either. in alot of games i get way more fps than him (i have a i7 10870h and a RTX 2060 with 16gbs ram but its a laptop). I know my cards better but it is a laptop card but still. I guess im just looking for a fix for him. Any suggestions or ideas would be nice. also id like to add that for some reason he can bearly run GTA5 (single player)  which really isnt a demanding game.

Thanks

sorry for the late reply but im pretty sure it is single channel and ill have check what speed, ill update you tommorow as it is currently night time and he is not around to be asked. and i think im not sure though but i think it is lower speed. If the ram is crappy could this be holding back his system? thanks

Ryzen is heavily dependant on memory. If it's a single channel (1 stick only or 2 sticks, but put in the wrong slots) it can easily drop 10-15% performance. Same if it's 2133MHz ram instead of the 2933MHz that Ryzen 2000 is supposed to run on. Check if XMP is enabled in BIOS. The other thing is to check temperatures for thermal throttles; use Afterburner. Goes without saying that the latest drivers also should be applied.

| 4x16GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo 4000MHz CL16 | Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6900 XT | Seasonic Focus GX-1000|

| 512GB A-Data XPG Spectrix S40G RGB | 2TB A-Data SX8200 Pro| Phanteks Eclipse G500A |

Who told you GTA5 isn't a demanding game?

I mean, sure, if you want to play it at 480p on low, you can.

But, getting to run and look nice with a decent fps isn't that easy.
