No Video Output

Bought a new PC (pre-built thanks to shortages) and it had been working great since it arrived a couple of weeks ago. Last night several hours into a session of Valheim the video output just completely died in the middle of the game. PC was still running and working as I could still hear my friends in Discord talking about how they got kicked out of the server I was hosting, though I could not respond I assume because my mic being passed through RTX Voice.

Since then I have tried rebooting the PC, changing monitors, re-seating the GPU, swapping the GPU to another PCIE slot, changing out the GPU with the one in my old rig, re-seating the RAM, changing RAM slots, using only 1 stick of RAM, changing the RAM out with what's in my old rig, and finally clearing CMOS.

Nothing so far has worked, I just get a black screen and a no video output error. I do know that the new GPU is fine, I have it in my old rig right now and it's running without issue.

PC Specs:

  • Windows 10 home 64bit
  • ASUS PRIME X570-P ATX
  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
  • 16GBx2 Kingston HyperX Predator (3000MHz, overclocked to 3200MHz)
  • GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 GAMING OC
  • 1TB SAMSUNG 980 PRO
  • Corsair RM850 80+ Gold

Can't provide the BIOS version since I have no idea which one I'm on, and I can't get to the BIOS to check or change it without the video output (no iGPU as an alt).

Have you ruled out the possibility of a bad PSU?

I have not. I wont have time to do a PSU swap until later in the day as I need either the new or the old rig running in order to work.

My old PSU is the same wattage, just a lower 80+ rating, so luckily I should be good to test that when I have the time.

So I was looking at the system between meetings a bit ago and discovered that this motherboard has an additional 4-pin power connecter next to the 8-pin CPU power, and only the 8-pin is populated. Would anyone know if my configuration would draw enough power that I should have both of these connectors populated and that the instability from this could have caused my issue?

Alright, finally finished working on the rigs. Thank you for the suggestion Cool_Evlo, it was definitely something to do with the PSU.

After installing the PSU from my old rig into the new one I had a successful POST with video output. I then reconnected the original PSU just for the sake of testing and also got a successful POST. So I'm assuming that there was likely a faulty connection somewhere in the line and in my disconnecting and reconnecting of everything I just happened to fix whatever cables weren't connected properly. I'll keep a close eye on its stability for a while anyway, just in case it's the PSU itself that's the problem and it just sometimes deciding to work and sometimes not. I've got the standard 1 year warranty on the rig and it's only 2 weeks old, so plenty of time to see.

Sorry I didn't respond, you have to either reply, with the little arrow below the post, or @ me.
