CPU: i5 4670k i won the silicon lottery Cooler: Corsair H100i w/ 2x Corsair SP120 quiet editions Mobo: ASUS Z97 SABERTOOTH MARK 1 Ram: Corsair Platnums 16gb (4x4gb) Storage: Samsun 840 evo 256gb and random hard drives GPU: EVGA acx 2.0 gtx 980 PSU: Corsair RM 850w Case: Fractal Arc Midi R2 windowed

Before you rma it, let me ask you this, what card were you using before the 280X? Even if it were an older AMD card, you would have to cometely uninstall the driver....that is, power up pc and go into safe mode, uninstall present driver and restart, run DDU or Driver Sweeper to removed any remnant of previous driver and reboot. Power up pc but don't connect to the net as Windows would automatically search for and install driver, install the driver you want to be installed....13.12 though I am on 14.3 v1.0 without issue. From 13.12 onwards, a clean driver i stall is best for optimum performance.

i was using an AMD 7770, i fresh installed Windows 8.1 as I got a new CPU and Motherboard

Weird, my main rig in sig is running 14.3 v1.0 and my dual R9 290X seem to be coping very nicely. Have you tried this driver? Avoid the 14.1 as it was nothing but trouble....for me anyway.
