Hello,

I today installled Debian 10 with xfce desktop enviroment and everything was great so far until I started to install apps.

The apt cache has next to no applications unlike the previous installation even basic programs like chromium, vlc, gimp, Intel-microcode etc.

How can I fix this?

If you want to use Debian as a Desktop my advice is don't, go with one of the many Debian based desktop distros (Ubuntu, Mint, Pop) instead.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

Debian is my preferred OS ( I am using it for quite some time)  I got my new SSD today and reinstalled it there and I was encountering this problem (This happened because I was using the ISO with only free components).

Thanks for the hint ( the instructions you gave were for Debian Jessie and not Buster) after lots of research I found the solution here https://wiki.debian.org/SourcesList

Fair enough, the only reason I suggested something Debian based is because you get a few more bells & whistles with the desktop oriented versions but hey, if you're happy with Debian then cool 🙂
